PORT OF CHIBA: Gateway to Tokyo Bay

The Port of Chiba has been designated as a harbor of special importance, vital to foreign trade, and boasts high level volumes of cargo-handling in Japan. It has played the role of ocean gateway to the capital city area, as one of the premier international ports supporting economic activities. Of particular importance was the opening of a container terminal at the Chiba Central Pier (June 1994), which now allows container vessels from five liner routes serving South Korea, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Thailand, and Shanghai to visit the port, further enhancing the route network and covering almost the entire Southeast Asian region.
